Five Looks Inspired by the Stars of the 2021 Met Gala

Celebrities and notable figures from across the world gathered in New York City last night for the greatest night in fashion: the annual Met Gala. The Gala, chaired by Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, is a fundraiser to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. For decades, the Met Gala has been a night of high fashion, star-studded celebrity appearances, and bold statements — last night being no exception.

As a lover of celebrities and their fashion statements, you can imagine last night to be my personal version of the Super Bowl! Coming off of a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, the stars of the red carpet did NOT disappoint. I teamed up with Taylor Beadle and Shelby Brignac from Stuller’s Fine Jewelry team to look for inspiration on the red carpet. Our goal was to pick jewelry pairings inspired by the stunning ensembles of our favorite celebrities. While we would have loved to feature all attendees, we picked a handful of icons we simply had to mention.

Here are our top 5 stars of the 2021 Met Gala and jewelry pairings we’d choose based on their outfits.

A true fashion industry trailblazer and fixture, we would have seriously missed out if we didn’t give a callout to the chair of the Met Gala and Vogue editor-in-chief herself. First to arrive to greet her guests, Anna Wintour donned a colorful floral dress and we were instantly inspired.

Keeping with the floral motifs, we chose a pairing of Stuller’s new floral necklace (88067) and floral signet ring (57724) set in yellow gold. To add a pop of color, reflecting the vibrant flowers in her dress, we chose a gemstone line bracelet (651742) that comes in options with Blue Sapphire, Ruby, or Emerald.

Billie Eilish

If you’ve kept up with the rising career of Billie Eilish, another co-chair of the Met Gala, then you would have been absolutely shocked by her look last night. Known very well for her dark, punk, and baggy clothing fashion statements, last night was a departure in which she challenged herself to reach outside of her comfort zone. She absolutely glowed in a peach-nude gown with a massive train that trailed down the stairs of the red carpet behind her. When asked about her inspiration, she mentioned classic Hollywood stars, such as Marilyn Monroe.

This nod to classic style with a twist inspired us to do the same. We immediately would put together pieces from our new additions to the Modern Brilliance® collection where we have paired lab-grown diamonds with pearls. Our lab-grown diamond and cultured freshwater pearl earrings (688845), necklace (688847), and drop earrings (688846) are the perfect complement to styles where classic meets modern.

Timothée Chalamet

A post shared by E! News (@enews)

One of the co-chairs of the Met Gala event, Timothée Chalamet definitely did not disappoint. The American actor chose a more subtle black and white color palette for his ensemble, but it did not lack sophistication.

From his outfit, we were inspired to choose pieces that spoke to his monochromatic theme. Our diamond and Onyx negative space ring (688826), diamond and white enameled lock charm/pendant (688834), and black onyx pendant (88122) could all come together for a simple, yet elegant combination.

Yara Shahidi

A post shared by redcarpetman (@redcarpetman)

American actress, model, and activist Yara Shahidi shined and sparkled on the red carpet. Her glittering ensemble not only caught the light, but it also caught your attention with its modern beauty.

This eye-catching look deserves jewelry that shines just as bright in on-trend fashion. New to our Modern Brilliance collection, our new 16 inch 6.75 carat lab-grown diamond line necklace (688853) would be a perfect statement piece. To complement the beautiful necklace, we would add a lab-grown diamond bezel-set ring (653703) and a straight baguette lab-grown diamond ring (688764).

To round out the night’s picks, we’d like to recognize Instagram executive and children’s book author Eva Chen. Although not a well-known celebrity in the music or film industry like many of the other attendees, Chen reminds us that guests of the Met Gala span a variety of industries. She made her appearance in a gown with a pop of color that really inspired us.

The rainbow featured in Eva Chen’s gown inspired us to curate our own splash of color with new enameled styles recently added to 302® Fine Jewelry. Enameled heart earrings (688831), ring (688844), and bar earrings (688832) in red, white, and black options add color and intrigue to any look.

A Night to Remember

With so many fabulous stars on the red carpet, it was nearly impossible to choose only five to feature. Honorable mentions could include several favorites, including Justin and Hailey Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello, and Kaia Gerber to name a few. After two years of virtual red carpets and socially distant events, seeing last night’s Met Gala truly made for a night to remember.

Social Survey: Men’s Jewelry Trends

Mens Fashion Trends

Let’s talk about trends. In the retail space, it’s important to stay up to date on trends, as these quick-lived movements can end up making you a lot of cash. With social media hotter than ever, trends are spreading like wildfire — especially in the jewelry industry. Photos of celebrities or athletes flaunting their favorite jewels are dispersed to millions of peoples’ phone screens worldwide. So, how do you adapt to the ever-changing trend landscape? Well, you stay ahead!

One facet of the industry that is talked about less than I would like is men’s jewelry. No, not just wedding bands — I’m talking men’s fashion jewelry. What are men wearing besides bands now? With simply working in social media, I was able to identify some men’s jewelry trends that I see very often. But that had me thinking: what are men actually buying? So, with the help of some of my jeweler friends, I was able to understand how men’s jewelry trends chalk up to what they are purchasing.

Read below for a first-hand look at the jewelry men are in to!

Decked in Pearls

One of my personal favorites, pearls, have been spotted on multiple celebrities over the past few years. Guys like Harry Styles, A$AP Rocky, Billy Porter, and more have been flaunting pearl statement earrings and strands effortlessly. Sammy from Ocean Pearl and Diamond and Jane from Jewelry by Jane Basch agree that they are seeing an uptick in men wearing pearls as well.

Brace Yourself for Bracelets

Perhaps one of the most common answers I received when asking you all about men’s trends was bracelets! I’m not a bracelet girl myself, but I do see the appeal. Staci from Kim Chau & Co, Cait from Libutti Jewelers, and Shelly from Sparks Fine Jewelry all agree that bracelets are a big hit for the guys in their area!

Seeing Colors

A few of you have offered up the sentiment that colored stones, both diamond and gemstones, are making waves in the men’s jewelry arena. Staci from Kim Chau & Co and Jack from JB Jewelers have admitted to making some colorful sales for men’s jewelry. Jack also mentioned that some men in his area are coming in buying enamel pieces as well.

Diamonds are Forever

A trend that we are familiar with here at Stuller is elevated men’s wedding bands. Donna from Acredo mentions that many men are going into her store requesting diamonds in their band. You know what they say… the more diamonds, the merrier!

Chains, Chains, Chains

Kelly from Jacobsen’s Jewelry states that Cuban link and rope chains are still highly sought-after pieces for men in the Midwest. I, for one, don’t see that trend going out of style anytime soon!

Pretty in Pink

Since we’re talking about men’s trends, I don’t think it would be fair to leave out the most iconic jewelry moment of 2021 — Lil Uzi Vert’s pink diamond forehead moment. It was short-lived, but enigmatic nonetheless. Thanks, Joseph, for reminding us of this rather daring moment in men’s jewelry history.

Drive Springtime Sales with 3 Big Social Media Trends

Ahh… social media. The all-encompassing digital channel, intended to connect with others and share content. Really, though, it has become way more than just that. For a lot of businesses of any scale, social media has become a selling tool, a newsletter, an information hub, a means of marketing — all in one. In 2021, if your business does not have an active social presence, you are automatically deemed “fake” or “untrustworthy”. My point is: It’s important to be on social media and have a good knowledge of the ever-changing landscape.

That being said, trends come and go. Stay in the know by educating yourself on what works and what doesn’t on social media. Luckily, your favorite Gen Zer and resident social media savant has done the research for you. All you have to do is apply the information to your daily social media routine. So, let’s get into it!

Here are some 2021 social media trends you should be incorporating into your social strategy!

Social Commerce

So, this is a biggie, especially for you, the modern jeweler. Social commerce is basically just the ability for consumers to shop directly from the platform. Facebook and Instagram are spearheading this trend, in efforts to enhance social media user experience. Since Stuller does not sell direct to public, Stuller doesn’t participate in this trend, but it does make the shopping experience for a Facebook or Instagram users more effortless, which can directly increase your profits. Consumers are more likely to make purchases if they don’t have to jump through hoops to do so, which makes social media commerce a commodity you need to be implementing for your business in 2021.

Live Videos

Live videos have been popular for quite some time now, and they aren’t going anywhere. In fact, I’ve heard a lot of success stories from jewelers when discussing live content. Things like giveaways, product demos, and the like have performed well in their favor. Here at Stuller, we give a lot of informational live videos on Facebook, packed with merchandising, jewelry repair, and even social media tips! You can check our latest live series out here. (Bonus: you’ll get to watch a video of yours truly and my sweet friend and coworker LeeAnn talk about social media photography!)

Utilize live videos on your social platforms and encourage your audience to engage with them. This is a low-to-no cost way of getting up close and personal with your product and staff. These perform especially well when you’ve got someone charismatic in front of the camera!

Stories

Similarly to live videos, stories are here to stay. Speaking from experience here at Stuller, you guys love when we share behind-the-scenes or uncut looks at what happens here in the building. Another thing you all really enjoy is when we take a more organic approach to highlighting our products – stripped down iPhone shots of things like necklaces or diamonds. (Check our Instagram story highlights if you’re interested in seeing how Stuller does stories.)

Stories are a great channel to showcase things you don’t want living on your feed. Promote things like jewelry sales, new inventory sneak peaks, customer testimonials, etc. The options are endless!

In closing, it’s so important to be up-to-date on social trends, because these are the things that will help you grow your following, and ultimately your customer base! As always, reach out to me if you have any questions/comments/concerns about social media, and get to posting trending content today!

Ring Pairings for the Perfect Match

Finding the perfect pair of rings can be a daunting task for any couple. With endless options, where do they even start? The input and guidance of a jeweler can never be replaced. Someone who gets to know them and steers them toward rings that fit perfectly together just like they do as a couple is invaluable.

As you get to know your customers, you may find their personalities and activities lend them to a certain style of rings. Our team has placed an engagement ring to its matching men’s band to fit five types of personalities of couples seeking your advice. Check out our ring pairings below and get started on your own selections on Stuller.com.

For the Edgy Couple

The Edgy Couple goes against the traditional grain. While some think of light and airy aesthetics when it comes to weddings, this couple prefers the dark and moody. Perhaps they spend their free time enjoying a cup of coffee in a local indie café or browsing the shelves of a bookstore. Their tastes prefer styles that are different and atypical.

For this couple, we suggest rings that match their edgy appeal. Strong and ready for a personalized custom finish, a tantalum beveled-edge band (52333) pairs perfectly with an accented engagement ring (124673) set with a black diamond. The art deco-inspired style and unusual stone choice are sure to catch eyes and are perfect for the couple looking for something different.

52333 124673

For the Fashion-Forward Couple

The Fashion-Forward Couple is on the cutting-edge of trending styles. Personable and always looking their best, they are bold and love to be seen. You might find this fashionable pair out shopping together or grabbing a bite to eat from the most popular or newest restaurant where they might meet up with friends. Their tastes prefer styles that catch the eye and are the next great thing to have.

For this couple, we suggest rings that stand out and incorporate up and coming styles. Mixing classic and contemporary metals in a band, such as a black PVD and gold-plated tungsten grooved band (TAR51911), makes for a very bold statement. Pair that band with a two-stone triangle diamond engagement ring (124373) to have rings that people will talk about. Two trillion style diamonds with a baguette diamond in the middle creates a faux hexagon shape center, which creates a unique twist on the rising trend.

TAR51911 124373

For the Budget-Friendly Couple

The Budget-Friendly Couple enjoys having style, but preferably at a lower price point. Always financially conscious, this couple loves every opportunity where they can save. This couple might limit the number of times they go out to eat or drink every month and save over time in order to make larger purchases. They likely spend time together simply enjoying each other’s company by walking in the park or cooking together. Their tastes prefer styles that they connect with emotionally, but also fit in their budget.

For this couple, we suggest using quality materials that meet their goals. For the wedding band, consider a black titanium domed polished band (T805). Pair it with a classic solitaire engagement ring (124702) set with either a lab-grown diamond or moissanite. By looking at expanded options in metals and stones, you will surely find something for every budget.

T805 124702

For the Luxe Life Couple

The Luxe Life Couple enjoys the finer things in life. From the finest food to the classiest of styles, this couple wants the best. You’ll find this couple dining out regularly and enjoying an evening cocktail at their favorite jazz club. They also take every chance to surprise each other with gifts and special experiences. Their tastes prefer styles that are bold, beautiful, and fabulous.

For this couple, we suggest styles that incorporate platinum and accent stones. A diamond set platinum eternity band (122254) provides strength as well as luxury in a wedding band choice. When paired with a double halo-style platinum engagement ring (123869), the ultimate luxe life couple will find their perfect pair of rings.

122254 123869

For the Old Souls Couple

The Old Souls Couple enjoys classic detailing and vintage stylings. A traditional couple at heart, this couple enjoys nights in watching old movies and scrapbooking their memories. Family heirlooms are important to this couple and they might even have a grandparent’s center stone to add to their ring. Their tastes prefer old-fashioned, but timeless styles seen in vintage jewelry that inspires nostalgia.

For this couple, we suggest classic and vintage style jewelry, such as a milgrain half round comfort fit edge band (MGRE10) paired with a vintage-inspired engagement ring (123983). This ring pairing boasts details that are enduring and can be passed down for generations to come.

MGRE10 123983

Making the Sale with Ring Pairings

Learning about the personalities of your customers are the trick to any sale. Getting to know the couple together opens new doors to finding what rings will fit them best. Take the time to find out their interests, their activities, their hobbies, their preferences, and more. The better you know them, the better you will be able to guide them to their perfect match.

There’s no denying it — life is different than it was two years ago. No matter how much or little you’ve been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, things have certainly changed in society. While these types of virtual events are not new by any means, they are certainly more prevalent. When you’re working from home, sometimes the highlight of your day is getting dressed up for a meeting with your boss. Shining Stars: Oscars 2020 Jewelry Trends

Did you happen to watch the 92nd Academy Awards last night? How are we feeling about the jewelry looks from the red carpet?

Last night, we saw actors, directors, musicians, and others get together to celebrate the art of cinema. Parasite, a South Korean dark comedy thriller, took home Best Picture, which is HUGE considering it is the first foreign-language film to win. Parasite director, Bong Joon-ho, received the award for Best Director. Joaquin Pheonix scored big as the Best Actor for his performance in Joker, and Renée Zellweger as Best Actress for her role in Judy. Notably, Zack Gottsagen made history by being the first person with Down syndrome to present an award, and Joker composer Hildur Guðnadóttir is the first woman to win Best Original Score in two decades.

A few weeks ago, we saw BIG and BOLD looks come out of the GRAMMYs. Last night, in true Oscars fashion, celebs toned it down while keeping it classy. I saw a common theme last night – keep it simple!  A lot of celebrities chose to leave their jewelry at home and focus on their clothing choices. That being said, there were some outliers who decided to rock some quintessential adornments.

Here are the hottest 2020 Oscars jewelry trends–

Chic Ear Candy

There were a lot of simplistic styles displayed on the red carpet. Most celebs opted for earrings to be their statement piece–in a subtle way. Brie Larson, Natalie Portman, and Sandra Oh keep it chill in trendy earrings.87219                                       87160                                    650183

Walk On the Wild Side

I can’t say that these jewelry looks were extremely daring, but given the overall vibe of the awards show, these celebrities stepped out of the box with some more interesting pieces. Zazie Beetz beamed in emerald fashion, Saoirse Ronan sparkled in some sizable gemstone rings, and Chelsea Winstanley was glowing in golden statement pieces!

Let’s Hear It for the Boys

On to what I believe is my favorite category… men’s jewelry styles! I may be biased because I love men’s jewelry in general (I may or may not wear a lot of my dad’s old jewelry), but there were a few stand-out celebs that encompassed the elegance of menswear jewelry. Brad Pitt wore a single yellow gold band, Mahershala Ali sported a simple pendant on his necklace, and Billy Porter flaunted a delicate pearl bracelet.

Honorable Mention

My honorable mention for the Oscars is Cynthia Erivo. She looked like an angel in her dress surrounded by all the diamonds. Sadly, my girl did not take home an Oscar, meaning she is not an EGOT winner… but there’s always next year.

Introducing Classic Blue: Pantone® 2020 Color of the Year

Classic Blue: 2020 Color of the Year

Last week, the color aficionados at the Pantone® Color Institute announced Classic Blue — a timeless, enduring hue — as the 2020 Color of the Year. This tranquil shade is suggestive of our desire for a dependable and stable foundation as we cross into an exciting new decade.

As a naturally restful color, Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility, soothing the body, mind, and spirit. Its reflective blue tone fosters resilience and boosts concentration and clarity in the viewer. Going into 2020, could there be a better shade?

As technology continues to dominate our world, it’s easy to see why we seek a reprieve from it all. We gravitate toward colors that offer comfort, protection, and honesty — all qualities Classic Blue provides.

Classic in Application

Classic Blue is a self-assured blue hue — simple yet elegant. The shade complements color mixes throughout the spectrum yet, at the same time, makes a strong statement on its own. Classic Blue takes on distinct appearances when applied to different materials, finishes, and textures, from shimmering metallics, lustrous sheens, and high-tech materials to handcrafted mixes and more fragile fabrics.

Blue Knows No Bounds

Because of its tradition and elegance, Classic Blue pairs well with many shades throughout the color spectrum. Pair with warm, peachy gemstones for a calming effect. Incorporate sparkle and shimmer for added sophistication. Add a hint of neon or even Living Coral, the 2019 Color of the Year, into your color palette for added enchantment.

Complementary Classic Blue Gems

Blue Sapphire

Blue Sapphire gemstones set the standard by which other blue stones are measured. As one of the “big three” precious stones, Sapphire’s breathtaking blues have captured our imagination and inspired designs. Within blue, there are many variations from lighter to darker shades, and some with a hint of grey.

Ancient lore tells us that blue sapphire brought spiritual enlightenment, inner peace, wisdom, insight, and the discernment to choose what’s right. It is September’s birthstone and celebrates the 45th wedding anniversary. For more about Sapphires, check out our Sell with a Story post.

Iolite

Mysterious and beautiful, this violet-blue stone is strongly pleochroic. When the dark blue side faces up, Iolite resembles Sapphire, offering customers a less costly substitute for September’s birthstone and other jewelry. Iolite enhances intuition and mental clarity while stimulating creativity and curiosity. Learn more about Iolite here.

Tanzanite

Discovered in Tanzania in 1967, some shade variations of Tanzanite closely resemble Cornflower-Blue Sapphire. The stone is said to raise consciousness, awaken our hearts, elevate moods, and guide its wearer toward their true calling in life. The gem sways in color and is most commonly brilliant blue with a purple tinge, though it ranges from indigo to violet to lilac to periwinkle. Find more about famous tanzanite here.

Mozambique Garnet

A warm red hue plays politely with Classic Blue as a reflection of tastes and colors of SWAS Garnet Gemstones Group Shotnature. Consider Mozambique Garnet, thought to cure depression, encourage good dreams, and promote love.

Amethyst

Amethyst Uses and Benefits GemstonesFor a more untraditional and unexpected pairing with Pantone’s Classic Blue, utilize Amethyst’s rich purple shade. Amethyst is equally gorgeous in white, yellow, or rose gold, symbolizing royalty, passion, and dreaminess.
