Inspired Styles of the 2023 Oscars

Celebrate the 95th Academy Awards with some of Stuller’s top style recommendations, inspired by the incredible nominees and winners of the season.

When it comes to our annual coverage of Hollywood’s best, we are seldom at a loss for words and can typically guarantee at least two truths — we’ve got all eyes on the carpet’s most unique ensembles (and on jewels, of course), and, if Zendaya is present, we’re talking about it.

Despite no view of Zendaya, however, the 2023 Oscars celebration still left us speechless; Jimmy Kimmel returned for his third round as host of Hollywood’s biggest evening, and the night brought the spark of the season with unforgettable moments, ranging from the champagne carpet’s debut to back-to-back, historic wins of last year’s films. In short, awards season has us buzzing and blushing with an appreciation for the indelible performances, work, and accomplishments of the film and entertainment industry.

In the spirit of doing things a bit differently, we thought we would take a different approach for this year’s coverage from our teams — why not shine a light on the year’s nominated and winning films with a nod to their on-screen presence? Let’s dive into style recommendations inspired by some of the night’s biggest titles and eye-catching stars of the evening.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

There is greatness in every single person. You have genius that is waiting to erupt.

Daniel Kwan, co-director of the film.

What happens when you imagine sending your mother into the Matrix? Apparently, the team behind one of the year’s most-discussed films, “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” knows a thing or two. Whether you’ve gotten a chance to add this one to your watchlist or are still waiting for the right time, we knew we had to include this one with best-selling maximalist styles.

From interesting textures and shapes to multi-gemstone jewelry, these picks will have you winning best dressed in every corner of the multiverse.

A night of historical firsts in the film industry, not a dry eye was found with “Everything Everywhere All at Once” winning seven (yes, seven!) Academy Awards in categories such as Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and finally, Best Film Editing. As actress Michelle Yeoh tearfully stated, “This is history in the making.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Together, we are reshaping how culture is represented.

Ruth E. Carter, costume designer of the film.

With heartfelt tributes to some of the industry’s contributors (Lenny Kravitz’s in-memoriam performance of his own “Calling All Angels” is sure to be a moment for the books), it’s no surprise that the unmistakable love for the late Chadwick Boseman continues to be a sign of strength in the entertainment community.

When we think of the film’s stylistic elements, we think of jewelry designs fit for a king or queen — edgy, but elegant. From accented, gemstone pieces to utility-style earrings, here are a few picks that we guarantee won’t clash with vibranium.

In one of the most anticipated performances of the evening, Rihanna took to the stage with “Lift Me Up,” gaining a standing ovation from most of the crowd. For Carter, her win for Best Costume Design marks her second Oscar for the category, making her the first to win for both an original film and a sequel. Needless to say, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” continues to make history and impact beyond the screen.

Top Gun: Maverick

We all need a hero sometimes, there’s heroes all around us in unassuming places. But, you might find that you can be your own hero, even if you feel broken inside.

Lady Gaga, performing ‘Hold My Hand’ from the film’s soundtrack.

Listen, there are few things in this life that I will ever deny myself the excitement over, two of those being the return of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and a stunning movie soundtrack. Luckily, wishes were granted when it was rumored that a sequel was in order, and I have to say, the 1986 revamp did not disappoint.

When it comes to our picks for pieces inspired by “Top Gun: Maverick,” we think of designs that are structured, strong, and minimalistic but still with the poise of a hero. A simple compass ring serves as a tribute to those who are inspired by purpose and direction while a statement pendant and chain takes the look to new heights.

Another buzzworthy title among box offices and film critics, “Top Gun: Maverick” took the nation by storm, earning a whopping total of six Oscar nominations for the evening, and walked home with the award for Best Sound. Additionally, onto the more pressing matter for us “Top Gun” fans: do we riot now or later for a lieutenant Rooster spin-off? Only time will tell, but I’ll be replaying Gaga’s performance until then.

Avatar: The Way of Water

Nearly 13 years after its self-titled release, the Avatar franchise had fans and box offices eager to see what was next for the Sully family, and according to the four Oscar nominations of the evening, every second clearly paid off! Many praise the film for its astonishing visuals and heartwarming tale of family, risk, and perseverance — and of course, the endless, striking shades of blue that envelop the science fiction film’s atmosphere.

When watching this film, you might find yourself fully immersed in a new territory; try on a few of our favorite styles that keep the natural world close, with hints of Turquoise and Aquamarine for something bold, something blue.

Following in the footsteps of its debut, “Avatar: The Way of Water” ended the night with the award for Best Visual Effects.

Elvis

Nominated in eight categories, “Elvis” made waves among last year’s film releases with incredible attention to detail in recounting the life and legacy of the King of Rock and Roll. Between interviewers still cracking the code on actor Austin Butler’s manufactured “Presley twang” and Tom Hanks’s portrayal as the late star’s manager, it seems this Baz Luhrmann film still has everyone on the edge of their seat.

Despite no wins at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, we’re still obsessed with the glitz and glamour that “Elvis” brought to the screen. From ornate, intricate costume design to Butler’s mirrored performance of the King himself, we had showstopping, statement jewelry on our mind fit.

Check out a few pieces that we think the King would have kept in his collection.

Although “Elvis” left the building with no recorded wins, it’s no argument that the film was among some of the most critically acclaimed in its category, tugging at the heartstrings of fans worldwide.

While we stay starry-eyed over Mr. Presley’s recently discovered, highly coveted jewelry collection, we’ll be looking for ways to add a “TCB” flare to our own selection. Shop best-selling chain styles to get the look.

A Night To Remember

Similar to the world of cinema, jewelry is an act of encouragement and self-expression, inspiring us to be our own storytellers of our unique experiences. At Stuller, our teams are continuously inspired by the creativity and showstopping styles of Hollywood’s biggest celebrations, and we hope that our recommendations encourage the same confidence on and off the carpet. A huge congratulations to all winners and nominees, and stay tuned for upcoming coverage on even more star-studded events!
